Today we are officially starting with our Christmas Tree QAL! I have been watching the different fabric picks of our participants shown in our flickr group and now I'm curious and excited to see the first star blocks!

The idea for this QAL came from Aylin and she also wrote the pattern. I have to say, I really love this pattern! It's so well explained, clear and understandable and you get cutting instructions for all the different star sizes - super! It's fun to work with it! If you want to join us - it's still possible. We have it scheduled so that we are finished with a quilt, wallhanging, tablerunner or what else you'd love to sew just in time for the holiday season!

I did the cutting for the first two blocks last week:

The background will always be the same in my quilt - white with stars on it. The stars themselves will be made out of six different red fabrics. I chose the most interesting one for block no 1 as the star himself is pretty simple. Unfortunately it is difficult to take good pictures of red fabrics... It has to be a little darker to achieve a good result. But as it started raining today the second pic is quite good :-) Star no 1 is a 6" block:

Block no 2 was sewn with the lightest of the solids I picked for this project. This block was easy and fast to make too:

It is a 9" block. I really had lots of fun while sewing and immediately began to cut the pieces for next week's blocks no 3 (15") and no 4 (9"):

Pay attention when printing the PP-patterns for block no 4! Chose the right size for your block - otherwise it won't fit! :-)

So, now I'm curious about your blocks! Which stars did you make, which size did you chose and what are you going to make out of it? Show us your pictures in our flickr group and have fun sewing along :-)
